Hi all,
Firstly, a Happy New Year to you all and I hope that 2015 finds you well.
Now, as the old saying goes...'New Year, New You'. This is a catch-phrase that many companies use to encourage us to 'be better', 'be thinner', 'be fitter', 'be more positive'. Oh, the pressure! But is it really a 'new us' that we want? Is the 'old us' really that bad that it needs completely replacing?
I don't think so but what I do know is that if we aspire to something, we can most certainly grow, develop and enhance or change certain aspects of our lives if it's what we really want.
If we want to DO something different, to THINK something different, to FEEL something different...we can achieve all the above and more if we trust ourselves and we want to do it for ourselves and not for someone else or because of someone else's ideals or ideas of who we are or who we could be.
It's very easy to say 'I don't care what they think of me' but in reality, it's much harder to believe it because most of us want to be liked and thought well of by others. How many of us have had that moment when walking through the office or down the street and thought 'OMG, is it me they're laughing at? Do I look stupid? Do I look the size of a bus?'
At the end of the day, it comes down to inner confidence and how you feel about yourself that really matters.
Sometimes though, for some of us who struggle alone...we just need someone to make eye contact with us, to smile at us and acknowledge that we're there! That alone can boost our confidence no end....enough to walk taller, to return the smile, to think 'I'm not too bad after all'.
Sometimes....just sometimes....we all need a bit of a boost from someone else to inspire our hearts and minds and to confirm that actually....we're really wonderful, just the way we are! It's not about how they want us to be, to look...it's about our own acceptance of us 'just as we are'. Bridget Jones eat your heart out!
