Bowen Fascial Release Technique and how it works.
The Bowen Technique is a highly effective, non-invasive, soft tissue therapy that is suitable for all ages. It can be carried out equally well on pregnant mums, new born babies, the elderly and those bound to a wheelchair or bed. It can support those receiving palliative care or invasive treatments and also those not injured or in pain who just want the opportunity to completely relax every now and again or optimise sports performance and minimise the risk of injury.
It was developed by the late Thomas Bowen in Geelong, Australia in the 1950's and he devoted his life's work to refining this unique and often life changing technique .
Through using gentle, rolling type movements with the fingers and thumbs on the skin and over specific muscle groups, Bowen helps to release the fascia that lies under the skin to relieve deep seated tension and 'asks' your body to address physical imbalances and heal injuries. This, in turn, promotes relief from pain and helps renew energy. Between each set of moves, there is a rest period of a few minutes to allow your system to absorb the information it has received and to initiate the healing process.
As a Bowen practitioner, I do not diagnose but consider you and your body as a whole so each treatment is tailored to your individual symptoms and needs.
7 Good Reasons for Bowen Therapy
1. Stress Relief – Unique moves switch off the fight or flight stress response
2. Balance restored – structurally, chemically & emotionally
3. Pain Relief – postural & tension-based problems
4. Calming – inflammatory & allergy-based conditions
5. Breathe Easier – hayfever, respiratory & sinus symptoms
6. Aids Digestion – calms, heals, reduces inflammation, improves passage of food & waste
7. Protects You – boosts your body’s natural defences, promotes healing & recovery of energy
The Bowen Technique is not intended as a substitute for medical advice or treatment.
We recommend you consult your own doctor about any health concerns you may have.
