Frequently Asked Questions
Is Bowen a form of massage?
No, Bowen works in a completely different way - there are no oils involved and you do not need to remove your clothing.
What is Fascia?
Fascia is the biological fabric that holds us together. It is the white wrapping that we see around muscle, but is also the tissue that winds through and around the muscles, organs and bones, joining everything together. Please visit the YouTube link on the links page for a bit more information.
Can I mix Bowen with other forms of therapy?
No, it is important not to have any other physical therapy sessions within 7 days before and after a Bowen treatment. The reason for this is that it is too many conflicting messages for the body to absorb and it could lead to over-stressing the body and affect the outcome of the treatment. However, Bach Flower therapy, Homeopathy and Kinesiology for example, compliment Bowen very well.
How much does it cost?
An initial block of three consultations (recommended initial treatment) costs £120. Pay in advance and get a £10 discount!
Single appointments thereafter for maintenance Bowen are also £40. But pay for two appointments in advance and receive a £10 discount!
Concessionary rates available for babies, children under 16, multiple family members and over 60's.
NB: Offers sometimes available - please see 'Offers and Events' for regular updates and details.
I've had an operation lately - is it safe to have Bowen?
Yes and scar tissue has also been shown to respond well to Bowen.
I'm pregnant, can I still have a treatment?
Yes, there a couple of procedures that have provisos dependant on the length of pregnancy but this can be discussed and explained during the appointment.
I'm having difficulty getting pregnant, will this help?
It may help, yes and it is also advisable, but not essential, to treat both partners.
What if you find something wrong with me?
As a Bowen practitioner, I do not diagnose-this must be done by a medical professional. If, during the treatment, I feel that it would be best for you to consult a doctor, I will advise you accordingly.
If Bowen is not helping, what then?
As your practitioner, I will discuss the situation with you and if appropriate, will be able to refer you to another suitable professional depending on your needs.
